My name is Lawrence Halvorson, some people call me Larry for short. I'm 31 years old and have lived in the great state of Vermont for my entire life. I have a lengthy career working in hospitality, specifically fine and casual dining at my family's two restaurants in downtown Burlington, Vermont: Halvorson's Upstreet Cafe and EB Strong's Prime Steakhouse. I have about a decade and a half of experience working both front and back-of-house positions.
In addition to working full time in the restaurants, I started my own business in the fall of 2021. Woods North is a New England outdoor media brand that emphasizes hunting, fishing and wild game cooking in the Northeastern United States. In the last 5 years, Woods North has become the largest Vermont fishing presence on YouTube, and top 5 in the hunting space. On YouTube alone, Woods North has over 5,300 subscribers and has totaled just over 700,000 lifetime views, with average long-form monthly viewership ranging from 10,000 to 50,000 views. I maintain a successful following on Instagram as well as my website.
Through Woods North, I have been able to travel and film content in five different countries, most recently with a week long excursion to Norway in the fall of 2025, but most remarkably to war-torn Ukraine in the summer of 2024 with a delegation of Americans from my hometown of Burlington, Vermont. Through our efforts, I became a founding board member and secretary for the Burlington-Kuyulnyk Sister City Inc., which is a non profit that was started to provide aid and maintain a connection with those we met in Ukraine. I am also a contributing member of the Burlington Business Association and the Downtown Action Group (DAG) here in Burlington, Vermont.
My life is almost exclusively in the outdoors or in the food service industry, and I believe what sets me apart from the rest is succeeding where those two worlds collide.
